Santo Domingo.- <\/strong>The National Youth Orchestra 2 (NYO2)<\/strong> of Carnegie Hall<\/strong> is now in the Dominican Republic to offer two concerts organized by the Sinfon\u00eda Foundation<\/strong>, as part of its international tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group, made up of more than 90 young American musicians between the ages of 14 and 16,<\/strong> will perform this Sunday, August 2, at the La Restauraci\u00f3n Hall of the Gran Teatro del Cibao and on Monday, August 3, at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of their agenda in the country, the members of the orchestra held a series of surprise performances (flash mobs) this Saturday in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo<\/strong>, where they performed pieces for wind and percussion instruments in spaces such as the Plaza de Espa\u00f1a, Columbus Park, and the Palacio Consistorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The performances will be conducted by Mei-Ann Chen<\/strong> and will feature violinist Tessa Lark<\/strong> as a guest soloist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The repertoire includes \u201cDanz\u00f3n No. 2\u201d by Arturo M\u00e1rquez, \u201cSky\u201d by Michael Torke, \u201cAn American in Paris\u201d by George Gershwin, and \u201cPines of Rome\u201d by Ottorino Respighi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NYO2 was created by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute<\/strong> with the goal of offering artistic training and international performance opportunities to young musicians from diverse communities across the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the activities in the Colonial Zone, representatives of the Sinfon\u00eda Foundation urged young Dominicans interested in music to attend the concerts and to train at the National Conservatory of Music or other academies in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
