LOS ANGELES.<\/strong>\u2013 The Dodgers bolstered their rotation by reaching an agreement to acquire star left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers, in one of the most significant moves before the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In exchange for the two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, the Dodgers will send three prospects to Detroit: outfielder Zyhir Hope, ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 25 prospect; right-handed pitcher River Ryan, No. 68 on the Top 100; and fellow right-hander Brady Smith, the Los Angeles organization’s No. 17 prospect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skubal became the first reigning Cy Young Award winner to be traded during a season since Justin Verlander in 2023 and just the sixth to do so in Major League Baseball history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this acquisition, Los Angeles strengthens a rotation that also expects to recover Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow in the coming weeks, in addition to reducing the pressure on Shohei Ohtani’s return as a pitcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The left-hander posted a 7-5 record with a 2.79 ERA in 16 starts with the Tigers during the 2026 season. After missing several weeks due to a left elbow injury, he returned in June and quickly regained his top form, standing out with seven-inning scoreless performances and another 12-strikeout outing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the Dodgers gave up three promising prospects, they managed to acquire the player considered the best pitcher available on the market without parting with any players from their Major League roster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
