Buenos Aires.- <\/strong>Argentine President Javier Milei<\/a> once again insulted his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva, this Tuesday, and said he hopes “that Brazil also turns blue,” in reference to a possible victory for opposition candidate Fl\u00e1vio Bolsonaro in the presidential elections in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Let’s hope Brazil also turns blue, for the sake of the Brazilians. Getting rid of the corrupt crooks (thieves) is always good, getting rid of the leftists is always good,” Milei expressed in a conversation with La Casa Streaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Sunday, the president had already referred to the possibility of “changing the political sign” of Brazil, while stressing that, since his entry into Argentine politics, a good part of the governments in the region have shifted to the right: “When I started this career in 2021, there was only one blue country and everything else was red. Today it is mostly blue and the thing is that it is not seen on the map because Brazil is red.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milei’s insults to Lula<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The president also reiterated this Tuesday the insults against Da Silva, whom he has described repeatedly in recent days as a “thief” and “corrupt.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a speech in late July in S\u00e3o Paulo at the launch of Fl\u00e1vio Bolsonaro’s presidential candidacy, the Argentine president called Lula a “thief,” among other insults that led the Brazilian leader to recall his ambassador in Buenos Aires for consultations and summon the Argentine ambassador in Bras\u00edlia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Tuesday, Milei also complained that Da Silva did not congratulate him after his victory in the Argentine presidential elections at the end of 2023 and accused him of having intervened “actively so that the other candidate would win the election.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also referred to the Brazilian president again as a “convict” and emphasized that “they took him out of prison due to an administrative argument.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tensions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lula spent 580 days in prison, between 2018 and 2019, for cases related to Operation Car Wash, which were later annulled by the Supreme Court due to procedural irregularities and after declaring the judge who prosecuted him biased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, the Argentine chancellor, Pablo Quirno, tried to lower diplomatic tensions and stated that it should be understood as part of the political and ideological differences between both governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There is no chance that the relationship will be broken on our side. We are not taking it to the institutional level,” added Quirno, before Milei reiterated the insults against Lula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
