Rome. <\/strong>– After two days of searching, staff from the waste collection service in the town of Bitonto, in the Italian region of Apulia (south),<\/strong> found the lottery ticket worth one million euros, which had been accidentally thrown in the trash by its owner, who only later realized its value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person who bought the ticket, whose name is unknown, threw it in the trash after the machine used to check if it was a winner indicated that it was not “valid,”<\/strong> a message that appears when the prize is too high to be paid at the tobacco shop, but the buyer thought they hadn’t won anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story was recounted this Wednesday to the media by Roberto Toscano, president of Sanb, the company that manages waste collection and transport in Bitonto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the reconstruction, the winner had chosen numbers they had been using for years because they were linked to the memory of a loved one, so when they arrived home, a family member informed them that the ticket had won, and they went back to the tobacco shop, but the garbage truck had already passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toscano explained that the people who had lost their tickets contacted the company, and the workers were able to quickly identify the correct truck and stop it before it could unload its contents into the compactor, the machine that presses the waste before its disposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Luckily it was Sunday, otherwise the load would have already ended up in the landfill. Once we located the truck, we put it under surveillance” and subsequently various administrative procedures were carried out to extract the waste and have the truck escorted to a facility, where the search for the coupon began among the six tons of waste,” Toscano declared to the news portal TGCOM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After many hours of work, one of the Sanb operators finally found the ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
