Santo Domingo<\/strong>.\u2013 Hundreds of family members, friends, and residents of Don Gregorio, Nizao, arrived this Wednesday at the F\u00e9lix S\u00e1nchez Olympic Stadium to accompany and support their favorite daughter, Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino, in the highly anticipated 400-meter final of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mobilization was led by the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mej\u00eda, in coordination with the Banco Popular Dominicano, who provided buses to transport the families from Don Gregorio to Santo Domingo and allow them to experience in person a historic competition for the athlete and her home community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting point in the capital was Plaza Santo Domingo, located at the corner of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington avenues, from where the first groups departed for the Olympic Stadium. In total, nine buses were deployed, while another six were on their way from Don Gregorio to continue transporting people who wanted to be present in the stands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mej\u00eda explained that the initiative had a special meaning because it was about bringing to the sports arena the people who have accompanied Paulino since her early years and who, despite her international career, have not always been able to see her compete live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese people who are arriving here are the people who have surrounded Marileidy since she was born, who have been by her side,\u201d stated the mayor, who highlighted the athlete’s bond with her native community.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The official also thanked Banco Popular for joining the initiative and facilitating the families’ travel to the capital to support the Dominican sprinter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey have purchased the tickets, they have transported all those people who love Marileidy from her beloved Don Gregorio,\u201d expressed Mej\u00eda, while highlighting the support offered by the banking entity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For the mayor, bringing the residents of Don Gregorio to the competition also represents a way to celebrate together with those who have been part of the athlete’s personal history. “There was no better way to celebrate with our athlete than as a family,” she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mej\u00eda, who defined herself as \u201cthe number one fan of Dominican athletes,\u201d highlighted the pride that Paulino represents for the country and the example she has built throughout her sports career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe has shown us that it is possible and that he has held Dominican identity high,\u201d he maintained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The mobilization occurs hours before Paulino takes the track to compete, at 6:55 in the evening, in the women’s 400-meter final, one of the most anticipated events of the Santo Domingo 2026 athletics schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paulino reaches this stage as one of the main gold medal hopes for the Dominican Republic, after winning her semifinal. The sprinter will compete before her home crowd in the same event that made her an Olympic champion and one of the world’s leading figures in the 400 meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, the stands of the Olympic Stadium will not only welcome thousands of Dominicans ready to cheer for the athlete, but also a part of the community that saw her grow up and traveled from Don Gregorio to accompany her in one of the most important moments of her career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
