The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. on a railway viaduct located south of the Merritt 7 station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the impact, the minor was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where doctors certified his death around 9:40 p.m., according to ABC News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The preliminary investigation established that three people were inside the railway area without authorization at the time of the incident. Officers from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department (MTAPD) arrested two young men, aged 17 and 20, who are facing charges for trespassing on railway property. Authorities did not disclose the identities of the detainees or the deceased teenager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a consequence of the incident, the 25 passengers traveling on board the train were transferred to another unit to continue their journey. Authorities indicated that no injuries were reported among the occupants of the convoy or in the surrounding area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Service on the Danbury Branch line remained suspended for several hours while police completed the collection of evidence and carried out the proceedings related to the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident adds to other railway accidents that have occurred recently in the region. In June of this year, a man died after entering the tracks of a New Jersey Transit train near the Hoboken terminal. In March, authorities located a body near the tracks west of the Plainfield train station, in New Jersey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also in April of last year, 62-year-old Lucien Jean passed away after the vehicle he was driving collided with a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train, operated by New York&#8217;s Metropolitan Transportation Authority. That same month, an Amtrak train fatally struck three people, forcing the suspension of service between New York&#8217;s Penn Station and Philadelphia&#8217;s main rail terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In October 2024, another driver lost their life when their car was struck by a New Jersey Transit train. In August of that same year, a child passed away after being struck by an NJ Transit light rail train in Palmyra, New Jersey. Weeks earlier, a 49-year-old taxi driver died when his vehicle collided with an LIRR train in New York, while the passenger suffered serious injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, in May 2024, Thomas J. Gates, a Broadway production stage manager, died at age 51 after being struck by a train in New Jersey.
