Rome.- <\/strong>Francesco Guccini, one of the most important Italian singer-songwriters, writers, and intellectuals, an exponent of the social protest song of the 70s, passed away this Wednesday night at the age of 86, according to his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funeral will be held in a strictly private manner, respecting his wishes, while a memorial service will take place in September to allow admirers and those close to him to say their goodbyes, the family explained in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known for his introverted character, which led him to live almost in isolation in the Apennines in his later years, Guccini was born in Modena and his childhood was marked by the Second World War and the absence of his father, Ferruccio, who was imprisoned after refusing to swear allegiance to the Nazis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His professional approach to music began during the sixties, while he was working as a journalist and studying at the university. He started writing songs and gradually came into contact with important figures and groups of the Italian music scene: his compositions were performed by artists such as Equipe 84 and Nomadi, before he definitively consolidated his own career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Radici” Album<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The great artistic leap came in 1972 with the album “Radici”, which included fundamental songs such as “La Locomotiva”, “Incontro”, “Piccola citt\u00e0” and “Il vecchio e il bambino”, protest songs that became true anthems in Italy, sung by several generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later he published “Via Paolo Fabbri 43”, one of his greatest commercial successes, which contained “L\u2019Avvelenata”, an ironic and forceful response to the criticism he had received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among his best-known songs are also “Autogrill”, “Eskimo”, “Auschwitz” and “Canzone per un\u2019amica”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to being a musician, “Il Maestrone,” as he was known for his masterful use of language, developed an extensive career as a writer, publishing more than twenty books since the late eighties, and also worked as an Italian language teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, especially due to his vision problems, he moved away from musical composition and focused increasingly on literature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His latest studio album, “Canzoni da intorto”, was released in 2022. In 2023, he re-recorded “Bella Ciao”, including a version with the singer Tosca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
