Santo Domingo.<\/strong> \u2013 The National Commission for the Defense of Competition (ProCompetencia) signed the letter of commitment that marks the beginning of the process to obtain the Igualando RD Seal for the Public Sector, an initiative of the Ministry of Women with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this step, the institution reaffirms its purpose of continuing to promote equal opportunities for women and men, both within its internal environment and in the different markets of the national economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president of ProCompetencia, Mar\u00eda Elena V\u00e1squez Taveras, pointed out that advancing towards gender equality requires identifying the market barriers that disproportionately affect women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this regard, he recalled that the Study on competition conditions in Health Risk Administrators (ARS) in the Dominican Republic, published in 2025, identified a lower participation of the female population as holders of health coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that this finding could be related to gaps in access to formal employment and a greater dependence on third-party affiliation, factors that limit their autonomy to choose an ARS, change administrators, or purchase complementary plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\/She indicated that these barriers can also affect the functioning of markets and the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the country, where 52.6% are led by women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Igualando RD Seal for the Public Sector is an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Women and the UNDP to strengthen substantive equality between women and men in State institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this process, institutions advance in five dimensions: planning for gender equality; strengthening capacities and creating favorable environments to achieve this goal; consolidating alliances; and generating results and impacts in public policies aimed at promoting gender equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
