PSanto Domingo.\u2013<\/strong> The United States Department of State <\/a>announced that the Dominican Republic will be the first pilot country for the implementation of a new program that contemplates the possibility of requiring a bond from certain immigrant visa applicants, as part of the assessment to determine if a person could represent a public charge to the U.S. government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U.S. Department of State spokesperson Natalia Molano explained that the measure is part of a broader review of migration processes and clarified that it is not a new law, but rather an additional tool within the evaluation of each file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis concept has already existed for many years. It is not a new law or a new procedure; it is simply an additional measure as part of that analysis,\u201d he indicated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Molano detailed that the possible application of a bond will depend on each case and that consular officials will analyze elements such as the applicant’s economic situation, financial documents, medical information, and other factors before determining if it is appropriate to establish that requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe consular officer will determine what type of bond and what amount that bond would be,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The information was provided during the program Esto No Tiene Nombre<\/strong>, broadcast on La Nota 95.7 FM, where Natalia Molano discussed recent changes in visa processes and answered questions about the impact this measure would have on Dominicans seeking to legally emigrate to the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. representative indicated that, once the bond is approved and immigration requirements are met, the person could receive their residence visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also explained that after five years, if it is determined that the resident did not receive certain financial aid from the U.S. government, the bond could be canceled and returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter five years, when it is determined that that person truly did not receive any help from the Government, then that bond is canceled and returned,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The official clarified that this measure will not affect those who already have a residence visa approved and stamped in their passport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnyone who already has a visa in their passport, who already has their visa approved to travel to the United States and obtain their residency, will not be affected,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the possibility of the Dominican Republic being included in another program related to bonds of up to 20,000 dollars for non-immigrant visas, Molano was emphatic in pointing out that the country is not part of that list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that this measure applies to temporary visas, such as those for tourism and business, and that there is a specific list of countries selected for that process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the interview, he also recommended that applicants stay informed through official sources and avoid relying solely on information spread on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is very important that you read all the instructions, that you complete all the forms in detail, and that you only get informed with official information from official United States agencies,\u201d he\/she stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Molano also called on people with pending immigration processes to present complete and transparent information from the beginning, especially in cases where there are particular medical conditions or situations that may require additional explanations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He indicated that those details must be communicated in the official forms and during the consular interview so that the officer can correctly evaluate each situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
