Lima<\/strong>.- The organization of the Lima 2027 Pan American and Parapan American Games launched a countdown clock this Thursday that will mark, in one year, the start of the games with a ceremony at the Plaza de Armas in the Peruvian capital, attended by medal-winning athletes Simone Biles and Karen Palomeque, as well as the President of Peru, Keiko Fujimori.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a raised platform in the central square of Lima, Fujimori, together with the American gymnast and the Colombian para-athlete, pressed a red button that started the countdown on a digital clock installed at the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fireworks that marked the start of the countdown unleashed the excitement of the public who attended the ceremony and enjoyed the folk dance performances and a concert by the popular cumbia group Los Mirlos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The head of state said in a brief speech that she felt an “enormous responsibility and pride in carrying out this sporting event” and welcomed the presence of the invited athletes because they are people who know “the effort, discipline, and courage it takes to compete<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fujimori added that the Lima 2027 Pan American Games “are not only a sporting event, but also an opportunity to demonstrate to the continent Peru’s capacity to organize with excellence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We will make the motto ‘Together we shine brighter’ a reality,” the president expressed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the president of Panam Sports, the organizing entity of the Pan American Games, the Chilean Neven Ilic, stated that “it is the first time we have returned to a country” that has already hosted the games, “because they treated us very well.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In 2019 we left Lima with our hearts full of gratitude,” stated Ilic after recalling the stadiums full of attendees and the atmosphere that “made us feel at home” during the Pan American Games that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Peru is at the level to organize anything it sets its mind to,” remarked the Olympic leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the president of the Americas Paralympic Committee, the Colombian Julio C\u00e9sar \u00c1vila, expressed his gratitude that Peru is opening its doors with this act to more than 2,000 Parapan American athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, \u00c1vila expressed confidence that “this opening will be the space for us to have a society with transformation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In turn, the president of the Lima 2027 Organizing Committee, Sergio Lude\u00f1a, stated that they are “ready to make history once again” and consolidate the Peruvian capital as the “epicenter of continental sport”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This watch is the starting point of an extraordinary human gear,” stated Lude\u00f1a, and announced the call for the volunteer program for the “thousands of people who wish to be the heart and soul of these games.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The twentieth Pan American Games will be held in the capital of Peru from July 23 to August 8, 2027, and will feature the participation of more than 7,000 athletes from 41 countries who, over 17 days, will compete in 38 sports and 59 disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
