These geographical points were specifically chosen due to the horrific crimes committed by the Afrikaner Apartheid in South Africa against Black women and girls from the late 1940s to the 1990s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Racial discrimination and slavery have been evils that have been established in the world long before the arrival of the South African National Party. Proof of this is the American Civil War, Nazi ideology, and of course, the buying and selling of slaves during the era of the first American colonies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the National Party was a group made up entirely of Afrikaners, that is to say men of Dutch origin, who believed that because they were white and blond they were superior to black people, which brought with it the massive exclusion of 80% of the South African population, because having dark skin was, according to State policies, something to be ashamed of and above all a symbol of inferiority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The segregation policy was known as apartheid and one of its main detractors was President Nelson Mandela, whose greatest achievement during his administration was unifying his nation under the vision that all men are equal and enjoy the same rights. Even though he was imprisoned during the National Party government and subjected to forced labor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend reading:<a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/estilo\/efemerides\/efemerides-y-conmemoraciones\/\">August ephemeris and commemorations<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is the International Day of Solidarity with the Struggle of Women in South Africa and Namibia celebrated?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although some time has passed since apartheid was abolished in South Africa and Namibia, racial discrimination by proponents of white supremacy still exists today all across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea of the United Nations is to use this date to raise awareness among people about how harmful it is to have prejudices or to denigrate others, just because they are physically different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, in 1973 apartheid was declared a crime against humanity by the United Nations, yet it continued to be practiced well into the 90s. That is not to mention that crimes of racial intolerance continue to make newspaper headlines and cause terrible attacks in many countries around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to celebrate the International Day of Solidarity with the Struggle of Women in South Africa and Namibia?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main thing would be contributing to some movement that seeks to help African women and girls who have been displaced from their country of origin, as a result of wars, some type of natural disaster, or political problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But also, it would be ideal to participate in some talk or event that seeks to raise a voice against racism or any other act of intolerance that puts at risk the life and free development of women and girls of all nations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every August 9th, the International Day of Solidarity with the Struggle of Women in South Africa and Namibia is celebrated worldwide.
