Bogot\u00e1 .- <\/strong>Unknown individuals destroyed a toll booth under construction this Saturday with explosives on the Pan-American Highway, between the cities of Popay\u00e1n (Cauca) and Cali (Valle del Cauca), where the inauguration of Colombia’s new president, Abelardo de la Espriella<\/a>, took place on Friday in a ceremony held outside of Bogot\u00e1 for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the information, an unidentified group arrived in the Mondomo sector during the early hours of this Saturday to place explosives that were later detonated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of the explosion, the toll booth was destroyed and traffic on the Pan-American Highway was restricted, although no casualties have been reported so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This toll booth was the target of attacks on previous occasions during indigenous protests that also affected said infrastructure, which was in the final phase of its reconstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De la Espriella announces immediate response<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The president condemned this act and pointed out that attacking “the country’s infrastructure is attacking the progress, mobility, and tranquility of millions of Colombians.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“To those responsible, I send a clear message: there will be no refuge, there will be no leniency, and there will be no impunity. The State will respond with its full capacity to regain control of the territory and defeat those who intend to sow fear,” wrote De la Espriella on his X account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cali, the capital of Valle del Cauca, was the setting this Friday for the inauguration of De la Espriella, who in his inaugural speech underscored his intention to fight relentlessly against “drug trafficking, crime, and narco-guerrillas.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This attack is the first known since the beginning of the administration of the far-right De la Espriella, whose inauguration took place in absolute normality, without attacks from guerrilla groups or criminal gangs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Colombian government held its first security council after the inauguration in Cali, a meeting that lasted until the early hours of this Saturday and in which it discussed with military and police commanders and other authorities the first measures aimed at confronting the armed conflict and illicit economies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cali is the main city in southwestern Colombia, a region hit hard by the armed conflict due to constant attacks by FARC dissidents and, to a lesser extent, the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Government has not yet provided details on the topics discussed in the security council, but the regional authorities who participated in the meeting disclosed some of the first measures that will be implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As a result of the meeting, the implementation of an intersectoral coordination strategy was announced to combat illicit economies, prioritize areas most affected by security issues, and strengthen the capabilities of the Public Force in Valle del Cauca and southwestern Colombia,” explained the governor of that department, Dilian Francisca Toro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governor highlighted that one of the main results of the meeting was the decision to move forward with coordination “between different sectors of the Government, territorial entities, and the Public Force,” with the purpose of controlling criminality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Secretary of Coexistence and Citizen Security of Valle del Cauca, Guillermo Londo\u00f1o, explained that during the meeting the ‘Apres strategy’ was presented, which stands for ‘Priority Areas for Territorial Recovery and Stabilization’, and which will prioritize the areas most affected in terms of security and will be developed starting next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coordinated work with regional authorities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, stated that the president showed his willingness to “work immediately on concrete solutions” after the authorities present explained the main needs of their regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our region spoke with a single voice: we need more security, more State presence, and results. From Cali, we are ready to work hand in hand with the new Government,” wrote Eder on his X account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister of Defense, retired general Jorge Eduardo Mora, assured today that he will not admit “doubts or setbacks” and that he will work “for the safety of Colombians”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Security is an obligation, a decision, and a responsibility that I assume before the country. To our men and women of the Public Force, I say: you are not alone.
