Santo Domingo.-<\/strong> Dengue cases continue to rise in the Dominican Republic. The Ministry of Public Health reported 11 new infections during epidemiological week 29, bringing the total so far in 2026 to 213 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bulletin from the Directorate of Epidemiology, corresponding to the period from July 19 to 25, states that the figure represents a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 173 cases had been recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although health authorities point out that the behavior of the disease has not yet reached alert or epidemic levels, they are maintaining active surveillance because the weeks of historically highest dengue transmission in the country are between weeks 30 and 45.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Epidemiological Surveillance System (Sinave) has recorded one death associated with dengue so far, while the cumulative incidence stands at 3.46 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Respiratory viruses maintain circulation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The epidemiological report also accounts for the presence of different respiratory viruses in the national territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During week 29, three cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed, identified as the main agent detected within respiratory disease surveillance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorities indicated that cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) remain within expected levels and are located in the success zone of the national endemic corridor, with no signs of an unusual increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recorded behavior was compared with the 2019-2025 period, with no increases exceeding the established safety levels observed so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several viruses detected in severe cases<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Regarding severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), six cases were identified during epidemiological week 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of these, two corresponded to influenza A virus (H3N2), two to non-subtypable influenza A, one to parainfluenza II, and another to parainfluenza III.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Public Health highlighted that the simultaneous detection of different viruses makes it necessary to maintain epidemiological surveillance to identify changes in circulation patterns and strengthen prevention and control measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
