Lima.- <\/strong>The Government of Peru reported this Sunday that eleven Peruvian citizens have died, 114 are missing, and three have been captured by the Ukrainian army, out of a total of 459 nationals<\/a> fighting for Russia in the war with Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided these figures in a statement announcing the repatriation of four nationals who were in a vulnerable situation in Russia after having escaped “from the forced recruitment of which they were victims to provide services in the war against Ukraine,” as it highlighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It has been officially reported that 459 Peruans have enlisted, with 11 deaths, 114 missing, and 3 captured by the Ukrainian army regrettably recorded,” stated the message, which is the first from the Peruvian government to report on the death of nationals enlisted by Russian troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Foreign Ministry also specified that a total of 31 nationals have been evacuated from Russia, 28 of whom returned to the country and 3 remain in Europe “by their own decision.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to the most recent cases, the statement indicated that the consular section of the Embassy of Peru in Russia “assisted and managed the repatriation of two young Peruvians in vulnerable situations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two other Peruvians were also assisted at the end of July at the consular section of the Peruvian Embassy, the text added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“All of them arrived in Peru and are with their families,” the Foreign Ministry reported, before noting that this process was supported by the Ministries of Women and Vulnerable Populations and Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warnings about deceptions to fight in the Ukraine War<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The statement asked Peruvians not to be “deceived by false job offers, as they could fall into criminal human trafficking networks” and reminded them that they require authorization from the national government to perform military service for any foreign state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also urged reporting recruiters to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police, and informed that those affected and their families can contact the consular sections in Moscow and Warsaw, which are in charge of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relatives of Peruvians recruited by Russia demonstrated last Tuesday in front of the Russian embassy in Lima to demand the return of their relatives, especially those who are wounded, and to be given information about their whereabouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The relatives stated that although they filed formal complaints last April regarding a human trafficking case, the recruiters who “swindled and deceived” their loved ones remain free and their cases “are sleeping in the Prosecutor’s Office.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the victims’ representatives, identified as Norma and whose son is listed as missing, stated that she had information about the death of at least 150 of these recruited Peruvian citizens, although she noted that this data has not been confirmed by the Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family members have called for protests and sit-ins since the first months of this year to demand information about those listed, while the Peruvian Government issued diplomatic notes without receiving a response, which is why it announced that it had requested the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for the search for the affected compatriots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
