{"id":520586,"date":"2026-08-10T11:11:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/opposition-deputies-highlight-jorge-frias-commitment-to-sde-during-his-funeral\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T11:11:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:11:33","slug":"opposition-deputies-highlight-jorge-frias-commitment-to-sde-during-his-funeral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/dominican-news\/opposition-deputies-highlight-jorge-frias-commitment-to-sde-during-his-funeral\/","title":{"rendered":"Opposition deputies highlight Jorge Fr\u00edas&#8217; commitment to SDE during his funeral"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santo Domingo.- <\/strong>Deputies from opposition parties arrived this Monday morning at the Blandino funeral home on Sabana Larga Avenue, where the remains of <strong>Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM)<\/strong> deputy <strong>Jorge Fr\u00edas<\/strong> are being waked, and highlighted his political career, legislative commitment, and defense of the communities of Santo Domingo Este.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fuerza del Pueblo<\/strong> deputy <strong>Tob\u00edas Crespo<\/strong> lamented the passing of his former colleague on the Chamber of Deputies&#8217; Permanent Committee on Contracts, where Fr\u00edas served as vice president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You might be interested in:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/Diputados aprueban en primera lectura Ley de Compras y Contrataciones{\">Deputies approve Procurement and Contracting Law in first reading<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crespo recalled that he had known Fr\u00edas since 2010, when he first entered the Chamber of Deputies, and highlighted that the legislator represented the Santo Domingo province for several terms, specifically the Santo Domingo Este municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cHe was a very fierce political leader who defended his convictions with vehemence,\u201d<\/strong> expressed Crespo, who added that with his death, the PRM loses a political leader with a long trajectory in that constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For his part, the spokesperson for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in the Chamber of Deputies, Gustavo S\u00e1nchez, stated that Fr\u00edas&#8217; death caused sadness among his colleagues, beyond party differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S\u00e1nchez described the legislator as a \u201cvery visible\u201d and \u201cconfrontational\u201d deputy, qualities that, in his view, were also part of his way of practicing politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cThe death of deputy Jorge Fr\u00edas has surprised us, regardless of political parties. It has filled us with a very particular sadness,\u201d<\/strong> stated S\u00e1nchez, considering that his passing leaves \u201ca great void\u201d in the Chamber of Deputies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Rafael Castillo, also a deputy for the Fuerza del Pueblo and representative of constituency number two of Santo Domingo Este, especially highlighted Fr\u00edas&#8217; dedication to legislative work, even during his illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Castillo stated that Fr\u00edas was a \u201cfull-time\u201d deputy and assured that he never missed a session or a working committee of the Chamber of Deputies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhen he had to put on his gear to defend his municipality, he did it even if it was against his own party. When he had to put on his gear to defend the community, he was always willing,\u201d<\/strong> maintained Castillo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Opposition legislators agreed to highlight that, beyond political differences, Fr\u00edas maintained an active presence in Congress and a close bond with the communities of Santo Domingo East, particularly with constituency number two, where he served as a representative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fr\u00edas was a deputy on three occasions and also served as a councilman for the National District City Council between 1994 and 2002.
