Santo Domingo. –<\/em> <\/strong>President Luis Abinader, together with members of the Electric Cabinet, visited the construction works of the San Felipe Andr\u00e9s I Power Plant, in Boca Chica, which will contribute<\/a> 467 MW to the national electric system, strengthening the energy generation matrix, responding to the growth of national demand, and generating well-being for the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The head of state described this plant as one of the most efficient and spoke positively about the speed with which its facilities have been built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe government has been concerned with leaving the country in tranquility regarding energy generation,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that sense, H\u00e9ctor Rizek, partner at Nexgen Capital and Generadora San Felipe, private equity developers, assured this Monday that, upon completing eight years of government, Luis Abinader’s administration will have installed 2,500 MW of thermoelectric energy, thus doubling the total capacity of the electrical system as of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also highlighted that with the commissioning of this thermoelectric power plant, the country will enjoy a solid energy surplus that will allow for a 15%-20% reserve, and facilitates the attraction of investments, reduction of business costs, and the energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are proud to have turned a public service into a strategic asset,\u201d stated Rizek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, Javier Tejada, also a partner in the project, stated that \u201cin an unprecedented State decision, -President Abinader- has promoted the renewal of the country’s electricity generation base\u201d and they jointly expressed their gratitude for the great support received from the State, highlighting the institutional framework and respect for the laws during the bidding and awarding processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Route<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Projected to become operational in May 2027, the San Felipe Andr\u00e9s I Generator is expected to contribute approximately 13% of the annual energy demand of the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI), thus contributing to the country’s economic and social growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the site visit, where construction is 92% complete, the progress of this strategic project was verified, which includes the construction of a state-of-the-art natural gas combined-cycle power plant, along with the necessary infrastructure for its interconnection to the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After being received by Hector Jos\u00e9 Rizek, Javier Tejada, Samir Rizek, and Edgar Pichardo, representatives of Nexgen Capital and Generadora San Felipe, the Head of State and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, participated in a tour of the facility’s main areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were also accompanied by Alfonso Rodr\u00edguez, General Administrator of the Dominican Electric Transmission Company (ETED), Celso Marranzini, President of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED), and Andr\u00e9s Astacio, Superintendent of Electricity.
\nDuring the visit, they were able to observe fundamental components such as the gas turbine, the steam turbine, the heat recovery steam generator, the cooling towers, the water treatment plant, the transformers, the substation, and the control room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High-efficiency power plant<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Located in Punta Caucedo, the San Felipe Andr\u00e9s I Power Plant has been conceived as a high-efficiency plant, with a net combined cycle efficiency of 64% and a heat rate of 6,307 BTU\/kWh, capable of providing firm and competitive energy to the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of its total capacity of 467 MW, 400 MW will be contracted for a period of 15 years, as a result of International Public Tender No. EDES-LPI-NG-04-2023, carried out by the electricity distribution companies under the coordination of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
