Lima.- <\/strong>The General Commander of the National Police of Peru (PNP), \u00d3scar Arriola, confirmed this Wednesday that three and a half months ago, during the transitional government presided over by legislator Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Balc\u00e1zar, an agreement was signed with the United States FBI to strengthen the fight against transnational crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arriola reported that the agreement seeks to carry out strategies against criminality “that has no borders”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without offering further details, he announced that the Minister of the Interior, C\u00e9sar Astudillo, will meet this Thursday with the U.S. ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarro, to address these strategies, which are focused on dismantling foreign gangs operating in the Andean country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United States Embassy noted this Tuesday on the social network X that the signing of the agreement between the FBI and the Peruvian National Police represents “a new step” in their “alliance to confront transnational organized crime, through cooperation and specialized investigation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He detailed that the agreement includes the contribution of technology, logistics, specialized training, and high-level professional assistance from the United States Government, “consolidating an alliance based on shared values and tangible results for the security of Peruvian and American citizens.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security cooperation with the Fujimori government<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Despite these announcements, when the press asked the president, Keiko Fujimori, about the announcement this Tuesday, the leader indicated that there is still no agreement signed with the FBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United States announced on July 29 an expansion of its cooperation with Peru following Fujimori’s rise to power, in a new sign of the Donald Trump Administration’s rapprochement with right-wing governments in Latin America, with an emphasis on security, combating organized crime, and defending common interests in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As things stand, among the main points is greater security cooperation, with U.S. support for Peruvian authorities to combat transnational criminal organizations, including the Tren de Aragua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington also announced assistance to strengthen border and prison control through biometric tools, the donation of explosive detection equipment for the Jorge Ch\u00e1vez International Airport, and the strengthening of specialized PNP units with support from the FBI and other U.S. agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
