Santo Domingo.-<\/strong> Political leader and former Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Dom\u00ednguez Brito, defended his actions in the case related to Santiago Mat\u00edas and denied that the decision to lift<\/a> a judicial record against him was in response to a political favor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During an interview on the program Una Nueva Ma\u00f1ana<\/strong>, Dom\u00ednguez Brito explained that Mat\u00edas was at that time a young man from Capotillo and that, when the judicial process took place, he did not yet have the public notoriety he currently possesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former attorney general stated that he worked for years with young people from Capotillo and other vulnerable areas, where, according to a study conducted at the time, nearly 90% of the youth in the sector had been detained at least once during police operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dom\u00ednguez Brito described this situation as a form of \u201cstigmatization of poverty\u201d<\/strong> and maintained that many of those arrests ended with the release of the young people after the payment of small amounts of money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding Mat\u00edas’ case, he explained that there was a ruling ordering the authorities to remove the corresponding file, so he asserted that he simply complied with a judicial decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI assume with great responsibility that I complied with a sentence and that I did the right thing\u201d, he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dom\u00ednguez Brito also acknowledged that he subsequently developed a friendship with Santiago Mat\u00edas, but clarified that he assumes full responsibility for each of the actions he took during his administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, he wished the communicator and businessman success, while expressing that he hopes he can have the discernment to distinguish between correct actions and those that should not be carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician denied once again that the lifting of the record constituted a political benefit, pointing out that when the case occurred, Santiago Mat\u00edas did not hold the public position he currently maintains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
