Washington.-<\/em><\/strong> The administration of President Donald Trump<\/a> filed an emergency appeal with the Supreme Court this Friday to allow it to immediately continue with the construction work on the White House Ballroom after it was halted by a court a week ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This project, like its predecessors, should be a matter for the president and the political process, not a construction by court order,” according to the appeal filed by the Government, to which EFE has had access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Friday, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit halted the construction until the White House obtains authorization from Congress, in a decision that will take effect in one week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The decision of whether or not to build a large ballroom rests with Congress, and is not a matter of the Executive’s self-governance,” wrote the court, which added that “each president is a temporary tenant, not the owner, of the White House and its executive residence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trump Administration has filed the appeal within the 14-day legal deadline and the appeal reactivates the Supreme Court’s emergency case calendar during the summer recess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The construction of the Ballroom, which has involved tearing down the east wing of the White House, is one of Trump’s major bets in this term, driven by his desire to leave an important legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Ballroom is a gift from President Trump and great patriots of the United States of America,” he wrote a week ago on his Truth Social network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
