Mexico City.<\/strong>– The United States’ decision to cancel the visa of Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Beltr\u00e1n, son of former Mexico<\/strong> President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador<\/strong>, is “a political matter” with which Donald Trump’s government seeks to discredit the former president, his brother, Jos\u00e9 Ramiro L\u00f3pez Obrador, declared this Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Ramiro, who serves as the Secretary of Government of the state of Tabasco (southwestern Mexico), told local media that through this action, and without referring to the name of his brother, Andr\u00e9s Manuel (2018-2024), they are attempting to discredit him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s not the boy (L\u00f3pez Beltr\u00e1n) they really want, but the older one (L\u00f3pez Obrador). It’s just that the neighbors (U.S.) are thinking about it. I think it’s a political matter, it has nothing to do with any other issue,” stated the 70-year-old official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is the discrediting (with which) they (the U.S.) believe they manage to cause harm, discrediting the citizens who are fighting so that in this country, the people of Mexico fare better,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He questioned the media on whether they had revoked the visa of any politician from the governments that preceded his brother’s in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When did you ever see them revoke a visa from one of the politicians who were supporting neoliberalism? They didn’t do that, because they were submissive governments that followed, to the letter, what they were ordered to do from the United States; here, there is sovereignty, there is autonomy.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that “if they want a very good relationship (U.S.), it must take place within the frameworks that the president (Claudia Sheinbaum) has stated: through cooperation and not subordination,” noted Jos\u00e9 Ramiro L\u00f3pez Obrador, who asserted that he has not seen his nephew or his brother recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Thursday, through a letter addressed to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Beltr\u00e1n reported that the government of that country revoked his visa to enter its territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a letter, dated August 13 in Teapa, Tabasco, L\u00f3pez Beltr\u00e1n asserted that the decision was made by the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and by Undersecretary Christopher Landau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, President Sheinbaum accused the United States government of engaging in a form of political \u201cinterference\u201d following the cancellation of L\u00f3pez Beltr\u00e1n’s visa, a decision she attributed to \u201cessentially\u201d political motives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
