New York<\/strong>.- Major League Baseball (MLB) announced this Monday that it has unanimously approved the sale of the San Diego Padres to an investor group led by Puerto Rican-born businessman Jos\u00e9 E. Feliciano, who will be the “control person<\/strong>” of the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early May, the Padres announced an agreement to sell the franchise to the investment group, which includes Feliciano’s wife, Kwanza Jones, and which represents the most valuable transaction in the league’s history, at approximately $3.9 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The closing of the transaction and the transition of ownership are scheduled for the coming days, and a media advisory will follow with the date and time for a press conference at Petco Park introducing the new owners of the Padres,” the team indicated today in a note.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

“We are a family first, and becoming owners of the San Diego Padres means joining an even bigger one<\/strong>,” Feliciano and Jones said in an MLB statement in which they promised to be involved with the team and said they have great ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our ambition is clear: to bring a World Series championship to San Diego and build a solid organization capable of competing for championships year after year,” they detailed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Feliciano is an American businessman who serves as a co-owner of Chelsea, while Jones is a renowned American artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Seidler family bought the franchise for 800 million dollars in 2012, but put it up for sale last November, three years after the death of Peter Seidler, the team’s owner until then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
