London.-<\/strong> Queen Camilla<\/strong> has admitted how “difficult” <\/a><\/strong>it was to keep the cancer of her husband, British King Charles III, a secret shortly after he was diagnosed with the disease in early 2024 and began his treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the charity Maggie’s, which offers emotional support to people with cancer, the Queen spoke with the organization’s director, Laura Lee, for the first time about the illness the monarch is suffering from, according to a video recorded at Clarence House, the King and Queen’s residence in London, and released this Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The king’s consort admitted the difficulty of not being able to share the king’s diagnosis while she was fulfilling an official engagement at a hospital center in January 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around that time, Camilla inaugurated a new Maggie’s center at the Royal Free Hospital in London,<\/strong> just as she had learned that the King was suffering from cancer and would need treatment, but she could not say anything until the official announcement was made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“No one could say anything at that moment; it was quite difficult. I was about to say something, but, you know, I felt it wasn’t the time to do so,”<\/strong> the Queen commented to Laura Lee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I was dying to let it out, but obviously I couldn’t. I asked them questions, (but) I didn’t want to pry too much,”<\/strong> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I observed all the people who were suffering and their families, and I think that made me understand even better the great importance of these places,” highlighted the Queen regarding the organization Maggie’s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The king’s illness was made public in February 2024, although the Royal Household has not revealed the type of cancer he is suffering from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than two years later, King Charles III continues to receive cancer treatment, but Buckingham Palace has reiterated that his health continues to evolve in a positive direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camila talks about the diagnosis <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

King Charles III<\/strong> was diagnosed with cancer in early 2024, after another condition requiring treatment was detected during a hospital procedure for a benign prostate condition. Buckingham Palace announced the diagnosis on February 5 of that year, although it decided not to disclose the specific type of cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, the 77-year-old monarch has continued with his official duties while receiving cancer treatment. His public schedule has been adjusted at various times to allow him to attend to his medical care, although the Palace has periodically reported that his progress has been positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news of the diagnosis came just a few months after Charles III assumed the throne, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022. The monarch was crowned in May 2023 alongside Camilla<\/strong>, who became queen consort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this period, Camilla has maintained an active presence in official engagements and health-related initiatives, particularly those linked to cancer prevention and care. Her recent testimony regarding what happened in January 2024 offers a rare look at the impact her husband’s diagnosis had on the royal family while they attempted to keep the information private.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Maggie’s organization, with which Camila spoke, manages support centers for people diagnosed with cancer and their families in the United Kingdom. The Queen’s testimony came within the framework of the 30th anniversary of this organization, dedicated to providing emotional and practical support during the illness process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King Charles III’s diagnosis also highlighted the impact that an illness of this nature can have within the British royal family, especially at a time of significant institutional responsibilities.
