Mi\u00e9rcoles 19 de agosto 2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EnpqwsE8M4\">https:\/\/t.co\/EnpqwsE8M4<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Gobierno de M\u00e9xico (@GobiernoMX) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GobiernoMX\/status\/2090070361497034961?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 19, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this latter case, Velasco explained that the prosecutor communicated that he agreed with the ICE investigation, which concluded that the person took their own life, &#8220;so they will not conduct an additional investigation.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You might be interested in: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/internacionales\/nueva-york-y-nueva-jersey\/organizacion-migratoria-advierte-aumento-de-operativos-ice-en-alto-manhattan\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/internacionales\/nueva-york-y-nueva-jersey\/organizacion-migratoria-advierte-aumento-de-operativos-ice-en-alto-manhattan\/\">Migration organization warns of increase in ICE operations in Upper Manhattan<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mexico filed a total of 20 complaints for the 17 deaths<\/strong>, eight with state prosecutor&#8217;s offices and 12 with district prosecutor&#8217;s offices, in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, and Texas, amid the tightening of immigration policies and detention operations in the United States.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is obviously a very painful subject for the Government of Mexico, obviously for the families of these people who have lost their lives and which is naturally a priority for the Foreign Ministry to address,\u201d stated Velasco during the daily presidential conference.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The foreign minister announced that the Mexican Embassy and the consular network will directly contact the prosecutor&#8217;s offices that have not yet responded to the complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the other cases (&#8230;) we are naturally following up, waiting to see what decisions will be made by each of the prosecutor&#8217;s offices where these complaints have been filed,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the local complaints, the Mexican <strong>Attorney General&#8217;s Office (FGR)<\/strong> requested in July that the U.S. Department of Justice open an investigation into the deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/estados_unidos_solo_ha_respondido_a_4_de_20_denuncias_de_mxxico_por_muertes_vinculadas_al_ice_version1787160069234_version1787160356118.jpg_1072462659-1024x768.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-701874\" style=\"width:587px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Seeking to protect their citizens from abuses committed by ICE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mexican government has also raised its concerns directly with the <strong>Department of Homeland Security (DHS)<\/strong> and <strong>ICE<\/strong>, while Velasco stated that he himself has discussed the matter on several occasions with the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The foreign minister stressed that Mexico is promoting these actions \u201cnot with the aim of generating a conflict with the United States Government,\u201d but as part of its obligation to protect its citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mexican pressure has also reached the <strong>United Nations<\/strong>. <strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/es\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UN<\/a> High Commissioner for Human Rights responded to a petition sent by Mexico in July<\/strong>, expressed concern about the situation, and forwarded the information to the Human Rights Council, according to Velasco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, he called on U.S. authorities to conduct prompt investigations and guarantee the rights of the victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mexico also plans to continue its outreach with the <strong>Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR)<\/strong>. &#8220;Defending the human rights of migrants in Mexico is a priority,&#8221; concluded Velasco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration has intensified its immigration operations to reach the goal of 2,000 arrests per day.
