Colombia<\/strong>.- Body of Catalina Ortiz found after earthquake in Colombia<\/strong>, after seven days of search efforts in the rubble of the Vanessa building, in Cali. The 30-year-old DJ and influencer was the last of the victims recovered from the collapsed structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency teams managed to extract the body during the early hours of Thursday, August 20, after an operation that required removing tons of concrete, beams, and other elements that were blocking access to the first floor where Ortiz was located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to information from the Cali Fire Department, five slabs remained on top of the young woman’s body, a situation that forced rescuers to perform controlled movements to access the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They used heavy machinery during the rescue<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The conditions of the structure made it necessary to use high-capacity cranes to progressively lift the elements that prevented reaching Ortiz<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every movement had to be carried out under supervision due to the risk that the maneuvers could cause additional shifts among the rubble or affect nearby structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation continued throughout the night and concluded around 4:30 in the morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the Cali Fire Department, members of the National Army, and rescuers from the Israel Defense Forces participated in the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foreign teams initially withdrew from the site around 5:00 a.m., but later returned to carry out a final inspection of the ruins and verify that no people remained to be located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catalina Ortiz was the last victim recovered<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ortiz’s recovery ended seven days of search and rescue operations at the Vanessa building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With their extraction, the authorities completed the recovery of 22 bodies found among the remains of the building. Among the victims are two minors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency agencies worked for a week to reach the different areas of the structure where people remained trapped after the collapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Ortiz’s case, access was obstructed by several tons of materials, so the teams had to advance progressively until they reached the point where he was located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rescuers faced structural risks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the weight and location of the slabs, beams, and other materials, the teams had to permanently assess the stability of the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Los Laureles building, next to the collapsed structure, remains evacuated due to the existing risks in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorities also maintained surveillance over the Metropolis Hotel, located in the vicinity, as operations progressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The permanence of the bodies for several days among the rubble also created sanitary conditions that forced rescuers to apply protocols during the extractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Debris removal begins<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After concluding the search for victims, the authorities must focus on the removal of the remains of the Vanessa building and the evaluation of the structures located in its surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The street where the building was located remains closed while work and structural inspections continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cali Risk Management Secretariat and other local agencies will assume the tasks corresponding to this new phase, while specialized search and rescue teams begin to withdraw from the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
