New York.-<\/strong> NYPD reinforces US Open security with anti-drone system<\/strong> that will allow for the detection and neutralization of unmanned aircraft that enter restricted airspace without authorization over the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, in Queens, during the 2026 edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New York Police Department will for the first time use its own equipment capable of intervening against unauthorized drones during the tournament, a function that previously relied primarily on federal government agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incorporation of this technology expands the tools available to NYPD specialized personnel tasked with protecting the facilities and their surroundings during one of the most attended sporting events in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the available resources are systems that use electronic signals to interfere with or modify the movement of certain drones when they enter protected areas without authorization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The measure is supported by provisions related to the Safer Skies Act<\/strong>, federal legislation that expanded, under certain conditions, the powers of some state and local agencies to respond to incursions by unmanned aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
