Some disappeared completely, others changed location or concept, while a few managed to remain as part of the collective memory. Its entertainment and music proposal made it one of the most recognized places for those looking to enjoy the capital&#8217;s night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/La-Guacara-Taina.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703933\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>La Gu\u00e1cara Ta\u00edna<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside them appear names such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elcaribe.com.do\/panorama\/pais\/auge-y-caida-de-discotecas-que-hoy-son-iglesias\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.elcaribe.com.do\/panorama\/pais\/auge-y-caida-de-discotecas-que-hoy-son-iglesias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Candy Disco<\/a>, Makumba, Las Vegas, Fuego Fuego, La Torre, Omni, Maunaloa Night Club and Club 60<\/strong>, establishments associated with different stages of Dominican nightlife.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/makumba-discotec-Santo-Domingo-1024x640.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703934\" style=\"width:597px;height:auto\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Makumba<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many of their former customers, these places represented a form of entertainment that has changed today. Among the names still remembered by those who lived through that era are <strong>La Ure\u00f1a, La Barrica, and O&#8217;Side Club<\/strong>, in addition to other establishments that operated in different sectors of the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Urban and commercial transformation caused many of these businesses to disappear or be replaced by new proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>La Barrica<\/strong>, for example, became linked to the nightlife and gastronomy of Santo Domingo Este, while La Ure\u00f1a became a well-known spot within the area&#8217;s entertainment circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/La-Barrica.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703937\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">La Barrica<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From cabarets to large nightclubs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The history of Dominican entertainment also has much older chapters. One of them is related to <strong>Cabaret Herminia<\/strong>, an establishment that is part of the history of Santo Domingo&#8217;s nightlife and an era in which cabarets had a significant presence within the entertainment offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Antiguo-Cabaret-Herminia-1024x680.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703939\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Antiguo Cabaret Herminia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the decades, that model gave way to nightclubs and nightlife venues aimed primarily at a young audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Subsequently, establishments such as <strong>AMBIs and Platinum Club<\/strong> arrived, names that also became associated with a generation that made nightclubs one of their main spaces for socialization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The restaurants that also made history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it is not only nightclubs that have disappeared. Dominican gastronomy has also seen the closure of establishments that for decades were part of the city&#8217;s daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/cafe-santo-domingo-restaurara-la-cafetera-punto-literario-de-el-conde-9b42f2d4-focus-0.01-0.23-375-240.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703941\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>La Cafetera<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most recent and symbolic cases is <strong>La Cafetera<\/strong>, which operated for 92 years on El Conde Street. The establishment became a meeting point for generations of Dominicans and was linked to the cultural life of the Colonial City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another case is the <strong>Maniqu\u00ed Restaurant<\/strong>, located in the Plaza de la Cultura, which closed after almost 52 years of operations. The place was frequented by artists, intellectuals, politicians, and representatives from different sectors of Dominican society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Screenshot_2023-12-02-10-11-30-643-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703942\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Restaurante Maniqu\u00ed<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also part of this story is <strong>El Vesubio<\/strong>, an Italian tradition restaurant that for decades was one of the best-known gastronomic establishments in Santo Domingo. Its closure marked the disappearance of one of the traditional restaurants linked to the Malec\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Restaurante-Vesubio.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703943\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <strong>El Vesubio<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Added to this list is <strong>Cant\u00e1brico de El\u00edas<\/strong>, recognized for its Spanish gastronomy proposal and for having remained for years among the traditional restaurants of the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/restaurant-cantabrico.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703944\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Cant\u00e1brico de El\u00edas<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another name known to a more recent generation is <strong>Chef Pepper<\/strong>, a restaurant chain that ceased operations in the Dominican Republic in 2023 after several years of presence in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Chef-Pepper.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703945\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Chef Pepper<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also appearing in the records of traditional establishments are names such as <strong>Cheresade<\/strong> and <strong>El Pez Dorado<\/strong>, the latter linked to the gastronomic history of Santiago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tele Oferta, another memory of the city<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The disappearance of iconic businesses is not limited to gastronomy and entertainment either.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/images-1-11.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-703947\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tele Oferta<\/strong> was for decades one of the most recognized businesses in Santo Domingo. Its presence in a strategic area of the capital made the establishment a reference point for thousands of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The business, founded in 1987, remained for decades at the intersection of M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez and 27 de Febrero avenues, becoming part of the city&#8217;s commercial landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why did they disappear?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reasons behind the closure of these businesses are varied. In some cases, economic changes played a role; in others, operating costs, urban transformations, new regulations, generational shifts, or changes in consumer habits were factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Technology has also transformed the way we shop, eat, and are entertained. Consumers today have a much wider range of options and use social media and digital platforms to learn about restaurants, book spaces, and discover new places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the case of nightclubs, the change has also been evident.
