Bogot\u00e1<\/strong>.- Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella signed the extradition to the United States this Wednesday of five members of armed groups who were peace negotiators during the dialogues held by the government of his predecessor, Gustavo Petro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the extraditions he signed are those of Geovanny Andr\u00e9s Rojas, alias Ara\u00f1a, one of the leaders of the FARC dissident group Coordinadora Nacional Ej\u00e9rcito Bolivariano (CNEB); Willinton Henao Guti\u00e9rrez, known as Mocho Olmedo, a member of the Estado Mayor de Bloques y Frente (EMBF), and Carmen Evelio Castillo, alias Mu\u00f1eca, leader of the paramilitary group Autodefensas Conquistadores de la Sierra Nevada (ACSN), all of whom are in the custody of the authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also endorsed the extradition of Gabriel Yepes Mej\u00eda, alias HH, leader of a dissident faction of the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group, and Fredy Castillo Carrillo, known as Pinocho, a member of the ACSN, who “are fugitives<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I have ordered the effective extradition to the United States of America of five citizens, whose extraditions had already been granted by the National Government during 2025, but whose surrender remained suspended due to the participation of these individuals as representatives in different processes, roundtables, or spaces for dialogue advanced by the previous government,” he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

These five criminals are wanted by the U.S.<\/a> for crimes “related, depending on each case, to drug trafficking, conspiracy to commit a crime, money laundering, weapons possession, and narco-terrorism<\/strong>“, according to the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“After verifying each case, we did not find any verifiable contributions or concrete results from these individuals toward the achievement of peace,” added De la Espriella.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The ‘total peace’ policy, the flagship of the Petro administration, faltered due to the failure of dialogues with the ELN guerrilla group and the proliferation of armed groups that have increased violence in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This ambitious proposal also included negotiations with FARC dissidents and the submission to justice of gangs like the Clan del Golfo, the country’s largest criminal organization, but the results were few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
