Caracas.- <\/strong>Dozens of Chavistas gathered this Saturday in downtown Caracas<\/strong> to protest against the presence of the United States in Venezuela and demand the release of Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/strong> and Cilia Flores, captured on January 3rd by U.S. troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have defined that our true enemy is Yankee imperialism and Zionism (in reference to Israel) and their acolytes in Venezuela,” Humberto Vargas, a member of the Anti-Imperialist Popular Front, told EFE in the midst of the protest, in which participants accused President Donald Trump of being a “murderer.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

During the protest, near the headquarters of the National Assembly<\/a><\/strong> (AN, Parliament), the Chavistas handed out a manifesto to pedestrians passing by in which they also reject the dialogue process with a sector of the opposition, led by former deputy Dinorah Figuera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his view, the negotiation is a “supervised trap” by the United States to impose the “plan outlined” by Trump after the military attack on January 3rd in Caracas and other nearby regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vargas assured that they will remain on the streets rejecting imperialism<\/strong> and added that they will soon discuss the scope of the oil agreement announced on Friday, with which Washington will control more than 20% of Venezuelan crude reserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For us, the Government is a victim of what is happening,” he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, he said that they will continue to demand the freedom of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and considers that the Chavista Executive is working to achieve this goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, the acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>, confirmed the “historic” oil agreement with the United States and “highly” thanked Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio for “their willingness in the development” of an alliance she described as “a historic milestone in bilateral relations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the Chavista leader asserted that the agreement, first announced by Trump, will allow for “considerably increasing oil production with the participation of private operators”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that sense, Rodr\u00edguez explained that the development of 17 strategic fields is contemplated, with “a proven potential of 65 billion barrels of oil, an investment of more than 100 billion dollars and more than 209 billion dollars in taxes for the State”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United States and Venezuela resumed their diplomatic relations<\/strong>, broken for seven years, following the capture of Maduro, who faces trial in New York for conspiracy to commit narcoterrorism and cocaine importation, while Flores is accused of crimes related to drug importation and weapons possession.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
