Buenos Aires.-<\/em><\/strong> Argentine Foreign Minister, Pablo Quirno, stated this Wednesday that there are possibilities to advance the sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands<\/strong>, following statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a potential review of Washington’s position and the announcement of a national broadcast by Javier Milei for this Thursday, in which he will report on diplomatic progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There are always chances, we are always closer,”<\/em><\/strong> replied Quirno to questions from the press about the possibility of Argentina regaining control of the archipelago, administered by the United Kingdom, before speaking at the far-right conference ‘Winds of Change’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His statements come after Trump claimed this Monday that his administration is reviewing its position on the Falkland Islands: \u201cI review all positions. That is just one of many,\u201d during a press conference at the White House<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milei considered this Tuesday that the words of his American counterpart meant \u201csomething very strong\u201d and said that the claim over the Falkland Islands<\/strong> is the \u201cmost important and sacred\u201d cause for Argentines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Falkland Islands<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Argentine Presidency later reported that Milei will hold a national broadcast this Thursday to provide details on \u201cthe diplomatic advances being carried out by the Foreign Ministry in defense of the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United States has historically maintained a position of neutrality in the sovereignty dispute, although it recognizes the United Kingdom’s de facto administration over the archipelago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milei has maintained that the Argentine claim must be resolved through diplomatic channels following what happened during the 2026 World Cup, when the players of the Argentine national team displayed a banner with the legend \u201cThe Malvinas are Argentine\u201d after defeating England in the semifinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
