U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that Venezuela is now \u201chappy\u201d following the military operation he authorized earlier this year to capture Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a television interview, British outlet GB News asked Trump whether the \u201cultimate goal\u201d of the operation had always been to reach an oil agreement with Venezuela. In response, Trump pointed to the country\u2019s \u201cenormous amounts of oil, among other things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut the country was very unhappy, and now it is happy,\u201d Trump said, before referring to U.S. companies that will invest millions of dollars in Venezuela and provide \u201cnew equipment\u201d to extract its crude oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump went on to say that Venezuela had oil but \u201cwasn\u2019t using it because the system was bad.\u201d He added that the United States now has a \u201cgood relationship\u201d with the government led by Delcy Rodr\u00edguez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is not the first time Trump has made a similar claim. On June 26, just two days after Venezuela was hit by a powerful double earthquake, he said that \u201cpeople are happy, they\u2019re dancing in the streets.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
