U.S. President Donald Trump defended his administration\u2019s policy toward Venezuela and once again attacked Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, whom he described as \u201calmost the worst person on Earth\u201d at the time of his capture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking during a dinner with Republican lawmakers at the White House, Trump said the United States had \u201ctaken\u201d Venezuela and claimed that oil extracted since the military operation had already covered several times its cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re working very well with Venezuela, but that was an attack; we took Maduro, who was almost the worst person on Earth at that time, and we took him out,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump also referred to Maduro\u2019s wife, Cilia Flores, while discussing their legal cases. He said both could face additional charges and claimed they were being accused of serious crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHis wife, too\u2026 She was a great leader, and they\u2019re going to trial and they\u2019re being charged with very serious crimes,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The U.S. president again accused Maduro\u2019s government of emptying Venezuelan prisons and sending criminals to the United States through criminal organizations such as the Tren de Aragua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump concluded by saying that Venezuela is now \u201cdoing better than it has in many years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
