{"id":523073,"date":"2026-09-04T13:33:04","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T17:33:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/?p=523073"},"modified":"2026-09-04T13:36:00","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T17:36:00","slug":"u-s-judge-temporarily-blocks-trump-measures-targeting-birth-tourism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/international\/u-s-judge-temporarily-blocks-trump-measures-targeting-birth-tourism\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. judge temporarily blocks Trump measures targeting \u201cbirth tourism\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A federal judge has temporarily blocked the implementation of new measures pushed by President Donald Trump to combat so-called <strong>\u201cbirth tourism,\u201d<\/strong> a practice in which foreigners travel to the United States with the purpose of giving birth in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judge <strong>Deborah Boardman<\/strong> of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland issued a <strong>preliminary order on Wednesday<\/strong> preventing the government from enforcing provisions included in Trump\u2019s recent executive orders while the legal challenge moves forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boardman, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden, determined that Trump\u2019s new executive order is <strong>\u201calmost certainly unconstitutional,\u201d<\/strong> arguing that it conflicts with a recent Supreme Court ruling concerning <strong>birthright citizenship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Measures announced<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision represents another <strong>legal setback for the Trump administration<\/strong> in its effort to limit automatic citizenship for certain children born on U.S. soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump signed <strong>two executive orders last month<\/strong> aimed at restricting birthright citizenship and combating what his administration calls <strong>\u201cbirth tourism.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the orders establishes categories of children who, under the administration\u2019s interpretation, would not automatically qualify for <strong>U.S. citizenship at birth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second directs the <strong>Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State<\/strong> to take steps to prevent foreigners from using the U.S. immigration system to travel to the country to give birth and obtain citizenship for their children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The measures were announced after the <strong>Supreme Court rejected Trump\u2019s first attempt to end birthright citizenship<\/strong> for certain children of undocumented immigrants and other people who are temporarily in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The administration maintains that the new orders were drafted with the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling in mind and are intended to expand exceptions that, according to its interpretation, already exist under <strong>U.S. law<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A federal judge has temporarily blocked the implementation of new measures pushed by President Donald Trump to combat so-called \u201cbirth tourism,\u201d a practice in which foreigners travel to the United States with the purpose of giving birth in the country.
