His followers placed large sponges and mats beneath him to help protect him from serious injuries caused by the hard, rough surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The demanding journey is part of the Hindu tradition known as <strong>\u201cparikrama\u201d or \u201cpradakshina,\u201d<\/strong> which involves following a designated route around a place considered sacred.
