Jerusalem.-<\/strong> Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this Wednesday that he will sue the newspaper Haaretz for defamation over its reporting on the warning from United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed prior to the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a post on X, Netanyahu stated that he did not have any conversation with the Emirati president between the beginning of September 2023 and October 7, and added that he will also sue the journalist who published the news and “other actors” who, according to his version, “have concocted a slander” against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Israeli headline, which reconstructs how this exchange between both leaders was forged after an investigation based on “dozens of sources in Israel and around the world, including senior officials, as well as recordings, internal documents, and correspondence,” the conversation took place by telephone, lasted 45 minutes, and was ignored by Netanyahu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Haaretz, Bin Zayed stated that the then-leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, was plotting an attack that would cause great bloodshed, destabilize the Middle East region, and undermine the Abraham Accords between Israel and Arab countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the publication, the Times Of Israel newspaper indicated that it had confirmed the content of the news with an Emirati source familiar with the conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Review of the call log for those days<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In his message, Netanyahu asserts that the prime minister’s call log for those days has been “thoroughly” reviewed and no trace of the call has been found. There is also no trace, he says, of an Emirati representative going to his office with an encrypted phone through which, according to the newspaper, the call took place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There is no possibility of entering the prime minister’s office without documentation and registration by the security services,” he states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister accuses Haaretz and its authors of fabricating a “malicious slander” for political purposes and links the publication to the electoral campaign in Israel, which will hold general elections on October 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UAE Government stated this Tuesday that it has shared with Israel “all relevant intelligence” when necessary, although it avoided commenting on a Haaretz investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The publication of this exclusive comes just days after Netanyahu sparked a major controversy in Israel by accusing top military and security officials of “deliberately” deciding not to wake him up on the early morning of October 7, 2023, in statements that the opposition and security officials have described as an electioneering “conspiracy theory.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
