Santo Domingo.<\/strong>\u2013 Although the Dominican Republic is in the last quarter of the year, when temperatures usually begin to decrease, the country will continue to experience severe to extreme heat<\/strong>, according to the outlook from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agency reported that, between September 9 and 15<\/strong>, a heat index exceeding 37 \u00b0C is expected for at least three consecutive days<\/strong>, with the highest incidence in the northwest region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the high temperatures, there will be a significant increase in Saharan dust concentrations<\/strong> over the weekend, which could exceed 100 micrograms per cubic meter (\u00b5g\/m\u00b3)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the risk forecast from the NOAA Climate Prediction Center, there is a persistent high probability of intense heat in the Dominican territory<\/strong>, with levels ranging from severe to extreme in the northwest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although thermometers may not necessarily reach 40 \u00b0C, the heat index will be higher<\/strong>, especially in central and eastern parts of the country, where temperatures could exceed 35 \u00b0C for three consecutive days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Temperatures of up to 39.3 \u00b0C<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The behavior of temperatures over the past week reflects the intensity of the heat. Between September 2 and September 8, the highs ranged between 37.7 \u00b0C and 39.3 \u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highest temperature was recorded in Mao, Valverde, with 39.3 \u00b0C on September 6<\/strong>, followed by Sabaneta, Santiago Rodr\u00edguez, with 39.2 \u00b0C; Jiman\u00ed, Independencia, with 38.5 \u00b0C; Altamira, Puerto Plata, with 38.3 \u00b0C, and Santiago, with 38.2 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Temperatures of 38.1 \u00b0C were also reported in Dajab\u00f3n and 38.0 \u00b0C in La Vega, while San Francisco de Macor\u00eds reached 37.7 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recommendations for heat and the Sahara<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Given these conditions, Indomet recommends drinking water frequently, wearing light, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing<\/strong>, and avoiding direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
