Dajab\u00f3n.\u2013<\/strong> Animal Quarantine<\/strong> and health inspection authorities have reinforced controls at the Dajab\u00f3n<\/strong> border crossing to prevent the entry of meat, sausages, and products made from leather or hide from Haiti<\/strong>, as a preventive measure following the anthrax alert in the neighboring country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During an inspection at the Dajab\u00f3n\u2013Juana M\u00e9ndez<\/strong> binational bridge, the provincial director of Health, Zaberkis Rodr\u00edguez, explained that the measures are being carried out in coordination with the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security (CESFRONT)<\/strong>, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the General Directorate of Migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodr\u00edguez clarified that the situation reported in Haiti is located in the southern border area of that country and not in the area bordering Dajab\u00f3n, where no cases have been confirmed so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are monitoring, not on alert,\u201d<\/strong> the official specified, noting that personnel maintain supervision of animal-origin products entering through that border point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, veterinarian Junior Pe\u00f1a, in charge of the Environmental Health and Zoonosis Program of the Provincial Health Directorate, indicated that so far he has not observed the entry of animals from Haiti through this point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pe\u00f1a attributed this situation to the controls implemented by agricultural and health authorities, while explaining that anthrax is a zoonotic disease that can affect animals such as cattle, sheep, and goats and be transmitted to humans through contact with infected animals, their fluids, or contaminated products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities are maintaining checkpoints and inspections on food and animal products considered suspicious, with the aim of preventing the entry of goods that may pose a sanitary risk to the national territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
