Beijing.\u2013<\/strong> Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi<\/a> urged Iran and the United States on Wednesday to exercise restraint, resume the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as soon as possible, and move toward a negotiated solution to the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a meeting in Beijing with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, Wang called for rebuilding the negotiation mechanism and resuming talks on issues of interest to both parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chinese official also urged taking measures to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, keep international shipping routes safe, and ensure the stability of global energy transport and supply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China calls for reducing tensions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Wang Yi stated that the prolongation of the conflict does not serve the interests of the parties involved or the international community. Therefore, he called on Iran and the United States to maintain rationality and avoid actions that could aggravate the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China also expressed its support for the dialogue between Iran and the Gulf countries and called for protecting the common interests of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chinese foreign minister also expressed concern about a possible expansion of tensions toward Yemen and the Red Sea, urging the parties to resolve their differences through dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Araqchi conditions the reopening of Hormuz<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Iranian foreign minister’s visit to Beijing comes amid new tensions in the Middle East and just days before a scheduled meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Araghchi had pointed out that Iran will not resume negotiations with the United States until Washington meets the conditions established in the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Islamabad in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement, brokered by Pakistan, is at the center of the differences between both countries and is related to the conditions for moving towards a negotiated settlement and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blocked since the start of the war on February 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Iranian minister had already demanded on Sunday that the United States return to the commitments established in the document as a condition for reopening the strategic maritime passage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
