President Luis Abinader<\/strong> will be honored next Wednesday, September 23, in New York<\/strong> with the Gold Insignia<\/strong> of Americas Society<\/strong><\/em><\/strong>, the highest recognition granted by that organization to democratically elected heads of State<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Americas Society<\/strong> announced this Thursday that it will present the award to Abinader for what it considers his leadership<\/strong> and contribution to the economic<\/strong>, democratic, and institutional progress<\/strong> of the Dominican Republic and the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony will be held privately at the organization’s headquarters in New York<\/strong> and will bring together business leaders and representatives from the public sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Americas Society<\/strong>, Abinader will be recognized for his management during the Dominican economic recovery<\/strong>, his commitment to strengthening democracy<\/strong>, and his participation in regional cooperation<\/strong> initiatives, especially regarding security and economic integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The distinction will be presented by Susan Segal<\/strong>, president and CEO of Americas Society<\/strong><\/em><\/strong>\/Council of the Americas<\/em>, and Andr\u00e9s Gluski<\/strong>, chairman of its board of directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highest recognition from Americas Society<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Gold Badge<\/strong> is awarded to heads of State<\/strong> who, according to the organization’s criteria, have developed a management with significant impact<\/strong> in their respective countries and in the hemisphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Americas Society<\/strong> describes the distinction as its highest honor<\/strong> for democratically elected heads of state<\/strong> who have made exceptional contributions<\/strong> to their countries and achieved international relevance. That definition also appears in historical documents of the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the leaders who have received the Gold Insignia<\/strong> are former Argentine president Ra\u00fal Alfons\u00edn<\/strong>, in 1985; the American Ronald Reagan<\/strong>, in 1987; the Brazilian Fernando Henrique Cardoso<\/strong>, in 1998; the Chilean Ricardo Lagos, in 2005, and the Brazilian Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva, in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also received by Michelle Bachelet<\/strong>, in 2009; Felipe Calder\u00f3n, in 2011; Juan Manuel Santos<\/strong>, in 2012; Mauricio Macri, in 2017; Iv\u00e1n Duque, in 2021, and Luis Lacalle Pou<\/strong>, in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abinader had already received another recognition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Abinader’s relationship with Americas Society<\/strong>\/Council of the Americas is not new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president has previously participated in meetings organized by the entity in New York<\/strong> and Washington. In 2024<\/strong>, he received the Chairman’s Award<\/strong> for Leadership in the Americas during the Washington Conference<\/strong> on the Americas<\/em>, according to the AS\/COA impact report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, he has visited the organization’s headquarters in New York<\/strong> several times during the United Nations General Assembly<\/strong> to participate in private meetings<\/strong> with business representatives and regional leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
