Mar\u00eda Elvira Salazar of Florida, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump who is seeking reelection in November, warned the president Thursday that some of his immigration enforcement efforts have \u201cgone too far\u201d and said Hispanic voters who supported him in 2024 now feel \u201cbetrayed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMr. President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far,\u201d Salazar said in a 30-second campaign ad released on social media. \u201cThe same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today.\u201d (The Washington Post<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n Salazar, who represents Florida\u2019s 27th Congressional District, cited July ICE detention figures in the ad, saying that 50% of the roughly 50,000 people detained that month had no criminal record. CBS News reported that July was the first month of Trump\u2019s second term in which people arrested solely for civil immigration violations made up more than half of ICE arrests.
