United Nations.\u2013<\/strong> The President of the United States, Donald Trump<\/strong>, keeps open the possibility of meeting with representatives of Iran during his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly<\/strong>, which is being held this week in New York, at a time when Washington seeks to move towards a resolution to the conflict and ensure that Tehran does not develop nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio<\/strong>, <\/a>confirmed that, although there is currently no formally scheduled meeting between Trump and Iranian representatives, the US Administration would be willing to consider a meeting if there is a possibility of achieving concrete results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rubio explained in an interview with the NBC network that any approach would aim to achieve progress that would allow for an end to the war and, especially, to prevent Iran from managing to develop a nuclear weapon. The statement opens the door to a possible diplomatic contact in one of the world’s main multilateral arenas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump arrived in New York on Monday and is scheduled to deliver his speech to the UN General Assembly this Tuesday. During his visit, he also plans to hold meetings with various foreign leaders, including representatives from countries allied with Washington in the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eventual possibility of a meeting with Iranian officials takes on special relevance due to the military escalation facing the region and the attempts that have been made to find a negotiated solution to the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian left for New York this Tuesday to participate in the activities of the General Assembly. The president is scheduled to address the plenary session on Wednesday, so both governments will have high-level representatives in the same city during the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrival of the Iranian delegation was preceded by uncertainty due to the United States’ delay in approving the corresponding visas. The situation generated expectations regarding the participation of Tehran’s representatives in the United Nations’ diplomatic activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran is among the main topics dominating the international agenda. According to the information released, the war began on February 28, when the United States and Israel initiated military operations against Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, Tehran has responded with missile and drone attacks against Israel and against U.S. military installations located in various countries in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the countries affected by attacks or actions related to the conflict are Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and Qatar, among other territories where the United States maintains a military presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the points of greatest international concern is the Strait of Hormuz<\/strong>, a strategic route for global maritime and energy transport. Iran has hindered transit through that area through actions against vessels, generating concern about oil supply and the behavior of international prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation also represents a political challenge for Trump within the United States. The rise in gasoline prices resulting from difficulties in maritime transport could have economic and political repercussions, especially ahead of the legislative elections scheduled for next November 3rd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that context, any possibility of negotiation could become an important element for Washington’s strategy. Trump has maintained a firm position regarding the Iranian nuclear program, but at the same time has expressed a willingness to negotiate when he believes there is a possibility of reaching an agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An eventual meeting with Iranian representatives during the General Assembly would allow for directly exploring the conditions for a diplomatic exit, although at the moment there is no official confirmation that such a meeting will take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The simultaneous presence of the American and Iranian delegations in New York, however, opens a space for formal or informal diplomatic contacts. The UN General Assembly often becomes a stage for these types of approaches, especially when there are international conflicts that require communication channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Trump prepares his address to world leaders, attention will be focused on the content of his speech and any announcements regarding Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. Administration maintains that the primary objective continues to be preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and seeking a solution that allows for an end to the conflict. To that end, the possibility of establishing talks during the General Assembly remains on the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
