Santo Domingo.- <\/strong>The authorities of the Ministry of Culture<\/strong> finalized the details this Tuesday for the grand opening of the 28th Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD) 2026<\/strong>, which will take place this September 24. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year the fair will have Panama<\/strong> as the guest country of honor and will be dedicated to the Dominican writer and essayist Jos\u00e9 M\u00e1rmol. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program also includes 700 activities<\/strong>, the participation of around 70 international writers,<\/strong> more than 50 national and foreign publishing houses<\/strong>, as well as the presence of 44 Dominican bookstores.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitors will also have the availability of more than 1,300 parking spaces<\/strong>, coordinated with institutions near the venue, including the universities of APEC and UNIBE, the Palace of Fine Arts, the F\u00e9lix S\u00e1nchez Olympic Stadium, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT)<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 28th edition of the International Book Fair<\/strong> will be open to the public from September 24th to October 4th<\/strong>, with free admission to the scheduled activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety device<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With a deployment of more than 500 security personnel<\/strong> from State<\/strong> agencies, the literary event will be inaugurated to guarantee the protection of the thousands of visitors who will come to the Juan Pablo Duarte Plaza de la Cultura. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The security apparatus will feature the participation of the Armed Forces, through the Army,<\/strong> the Navy and the Air Force of the Dominican Republic,<\/strong> as well as the National Police<\/strong> and its directorates of Preventive Police, Criminal Investigations (DICRIM), School Police, Municipal Police and Tourist Police (Politur).<\/strong> State intelligence agencies and the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) will also be integrated. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan includes a dynamic and static security scheme, with continuous patrols and fixed control posts<\/strong> both on the perimeter and inside the fairgrounds. The external coverage encompasses M\u00e1ximo G\u00f3mez, C\u00e9sar Nicol\u00e1s Penson, and Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a<\/strong> avenues, while inside the plaza, surveillance will be reinforced in the pavilions, auditoriums, museums, and other areas with higher foot traffic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the access control measures, pedestrian entries and exits will be regulated through handheld metal detectors and visual inspections.<\/strong> Likewise, the authorities have established a list of items that are prohibited from entering, including firearms, bladed weapons, trumpets, alcoholic beverages, and glass containers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The circulation of political or religious propaganda unrelated to the nature of the event,<\/strong> the carrying out of street vending, or the entry of unauthorized vehicles into the fairgrounds will also not be permitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding mobility, the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (DIGESETT) and the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (INTRANT)<\/strong> will implement a special operation to facilitate traffic on the roads near the Plaza de la Cultura<\/strong> and contribute to pedestrian safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency responses <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The device will include a healthcare and emergency response component. The Unified Command Post (PMU)<\/strong> will coordinate actions with immediate response agencies, while units from the 911 System and the Directorate of Extra-hospital Emergency Care (DAEH)<\/strong> will be located at strategic points, with ambulances and paramedic personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Civil Defense and the National District Fire Department <\/strong>agencies will also deploy personnel and tactical radio communication equipment <\/strong>to respond to potential contingencies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation also includes preferential attention for senior citizens, people with disabilities, and school groups, as well as a protocol to channel reports related to disoriented or lost children<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
