A pair of giant pandas arrived Sunday at the Atlanta Zoo in Georgia from China, following an agreement announced this week during a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, a male and female both born in 2020, arrived on a charter flight from the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pandas are expected to remain in Atlanta for 10 years under a loan agreement between the China Wildlife Conservation Association and the Atlanta Zoo, according to China’s state-run Xinhua news agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pandas’ arrival was one of the few announcements to emerge from Xi’s visit to the White House on Thursday, where he met with Trump amid tensions between the two countries over tariffs, Taiwan, the war in Iran and competition in artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Atlanta said goodbye to its last pandas in 2024 after a 25-year cooperation agreement with China ended amid cooling relations between Washington and Beijing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An agreement for two pandas to return to Atlanta was announced in April, but no arrival date had been set. Xi said during his meeting with Trump that they would arrive within \u201cthe next few days.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
