A new type of party is gaining attention on social media in Japan, where people gather at a nightclub to read books while listening to ambient music from a DJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Jucy Book Rave was held on September 26 at SPREAD, a club in Shimokitazawa. The experimental event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and allowed attendees to bring their own books or choose from titles available at the venue. The event also included a book exchange, giving participants an opportunity to share their reading material with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The concept aims to take reading beyond traditional spaces such as libraries and bookstores and turn it into a social experience. Instead of dancing, attendees can spend time reading while music plays in the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The idea is not entirely new. Reading Rhythms, a series of events that began in Brooklyn in 2023, combines silent reading with conversation and live music. According to the organization, the community has since expanded to more than 20 cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A similar concept has also emerged in Melbourne under the name Book Doff, with daytime events that combine reading, vinyl DJ sets and book exchanges.
