Yaniv Hayoun, an Israeli passenger aboard a FlyDubai flight, intervened after an alleged attempted hijacking left the aircraft in a dangerous situation. Although he had no security background, Hayoun reportedly ran toward the cockpit after realizing that the co-pilot had attacked the pilot and was allegedly attempting to crash the plane.

Hayoun confronted the co-pilot and placed him in a chokehold before dragging him out of the cockpit. Other passengers then helped restrain the man while Hayoun returned to the cockpit.

The aircraft had reportedly dropped more than 17,000 feet in less than two minutes. Hayoun pulled back on the controls in an effort to bring the plane out of its nosedive.

An off-duty pilot later entered the cockpit and took control of the aircraft, while Hayoun returned to help keep the co-pilot restrained until the situation was brought under control.
