Santo Domingo Este.– The Children and Adolescents Court of the Santo Domingo Judicial City East imposed this Monday a 30-day precautionary measure against three minors under investigation for the death of a 14-year-old adolescent at a foster home of the National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani), located in the San Antonio de Guerra municipality.
The information was provided by lawyer Félix Prenza, legal representative of the deceased teenager’s family. According to the data, the provision establishes that the teenagers must serve the measure at the Salomé Ureña Institute for Young Ladies, while investigations continue into the incident that occurred in the early hours of last May 24th.
The victim, identified by the initials N.P.P., died inside the shelter after being allegedly attacked by the three inmates, who reportedly hanged her inside the facilities.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s relatives continue to wait for answers regarding the circumstances surrounding the case and are demanding clarification as to why the minor was handed over by the Los Mina Maternity Hospital to Conani, where she was being held.

The hearing for the consideration of precautionary measures had been initially scheduled for last Friday, but it was postponed by the court and rescheduled for this Monday.

Following the incident, Conani announced the preventive suspension of the personnel responsible for the surveillance and accompaniment of the minors, as well as the administrative intervention of the temporary shelter, with the aim of reviewing and strengthening protection and supervision protocols.
The authorities are keeping the investigation open to clarify the circumstances of the teenager’s death and determine the corresponding responsibilities in a case that has caused consternation in Dominican society.
