Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader was questioned this Monday, during LA Semanal, about the recent appointment of Jorge Radhamés Zorrilla Ozuna as director of Border Development. A journalist reminded him that Zorrilla Ozuna had conditioned his political support to a position during the 2023 election campaign. Furthermore, that in 2020, Abinader had pointed out that the Inespre was “bankrupt” after the management of the now-appointed official.

When questioned about whether the appointment responded to clientelistic practices, the Head of State focused his response on the situation of Inespre, explaining that the institution lacked funds and that its administration decided to grant it the necessary resources to function correctly. “I was recommended to eliminate Inespre, but I chose to keep it and strengthen it. The resources that have been allocated allow it to operate properly,” affirmed Abinader, without making direct reference to the controversy over Zorrilla Ozuna’s position. This way, the president did not answer the questions about the reasons behind the appointment, leaving the political reasons for the designation pending before the press.
