Army stops truck with 26 undocumented Haitians during operation in Constanza

The vehicle’s driver was arrested and will be brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office to be brought to justice for trafficking undocumented immigrants

Constanza, La Vega. – During an operation carried out on the Guayabal–Constanza section, La Vega province, the Dominican Republic Army (ERD), intercepted a truck with 26 Haitian nationals in an irregular migratory condition.

The intervention occurred after members of the 6th Hunters Battalion received information indicating that a group of undocumented foreigners were walking with the intention of boarding a vehicle.

Faced with the alert, a military checkpoint was installed in the Colonia Japonesa sector, where a Toyota Pick Up vehicle, double cab, gray color, license plate L031181, driven by the Dominican citizen José Abelardo Bautista Rodríguez, was stopped, who was arrested in the operation.

During the vehicle inspection, it was found that it was transporting twenty-six Haitian nationals, including 24 males and 2 females, all in irregular migratory status.

The undocumented foreigners were transferred to the Fortaleza Patria, where they were placed under military custody for their purification and subsequent repatriation by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), while the driver will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for the corresponding legal purposes.
