Authorities agree to remove obsolete wiring in the National District

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), the Mayor’s Office of the National District (ADN) and the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED) agreed to move forward with the removal of unused and obsolete aerial cabling, as well as the ordering of the infrastructures that affect the urban image and the safety of citizens. The intervention contemplates a technical cycle that includes surveying and inspection, identification of active and to-be-removed wiring, labeling of unidentified networks, disassembly and removal, cleaning of the intervened area, and final validation of the work by the institutions involved.

The actions will be carried out in stages in prioritized areas of the National District, including sectors such as Ciudad Colonial, San Carlos, Cristo Rey, Los Girasoles, Bella Vista, Piantini and Naco, as well as high-traffic and urban-relevant road corridors, Indotel informed in a note. This agreement is part of a coordinated initiative since 2023 with the corresponding authorities and establishes an inter-institutional framework to intervene in critical points where obsolete, fallen, or improperly installed cables persist. Indotel will be in charge of the regulatory articulation and the general coordination for the implementation of the plan, including the structuring of the execution process with technical criteria and network ordering, in coordination with the other signatory entities. The District Mayor’s Office will carry out supervision work in the territory and will coordinate aspects related to the organization of public space, urban logistics, and the final cleaning of the areas involved, in order to ensure that each section is properly recovered. Meanwhile, CUED will provide technical support in the identification and safe management of the associated electrical infrastructure, as well as in the corresponding coordinations to ensure that the removal work is carried out under operational safety standards. The agreement was signed by Guido Gómez Mazara, president of the Board of Directors of Indotel; Celso Marranzini, president of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED), and Carolina Mejía, mayor of the National District.
