Higüey. – Within the framework of the solemn mass for the commemoration of the Day of Our Lady of Altagracia, the archbishop of Higüey, Monsignor Jesús Castro Marte, made a firm call to officials and public servants to exercise their responsibilities with clarity of purpose, dignity, transparency and a sense of service to the common good.

“Public servants are for serving the country, not for seeking benefits of any kind,” he emphasized. The prelate recalled that the State must be the guarantor of national life, standing out for justice and firmness, in line with the ideals of Juan Pablo Duarte. In that sense, he pointed out the need to strengthen support for the authorities and warned about actions that challenge public order and that end up generating mourning and shame in Dominican society. Castro Marte also extended his reflection to the private and business sector, underlining the social vocation of companies, called to comply with fair wages, social protections and an equitable distribution of the wealth produced, in accordance with the law. Finally, the archbishop invited everyone, including members of the Church, to bear witness with words and deeds to the message of Jesus, who “did not come to be served, but to serve”, thus reaffirming the ethical and social commitment that should guide both public function and civic life.
