Boca Chica.- The secretary general of the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (FEDOMU), Santo Ramírez, praised this Wednesday the delivery of equipment made by the Ministry of Tourism to the country’s city councils, considering that it will contribute significantly to addressing the effects of sargassum and improving cleanliness in coastal areas.
During his speech at the event led by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, Ramírez highlighted that local governments operate with limited resources, which is why this type of support represents an important tool to strengthen their operational capabilities.
“City councils operate with precariousness, so these teams will contribute enormously to combating this problem and many others,” he expressed.
The municipal leader indicated that the initiative will especially benefit coastal municipalities and districts affected by the arrival of sargassum, a phenomenon that impacts the image and appeal of the beaches for visitors.
“We are a country with a tourism vocation and our beaches must be in proper conditions to be attractive to tourism,” he stated.
Ramírez also took the opportunity to report that the Ministry of Tourism published on its portal the tender for the construction of the Baní Boardwalk, a project he described as news of great importance for his community.
Likewise, he explained that the equipment received will have multiple uses in the beneficiary municipalities. In the case of Baní, he announced that they will be destined for cleaning work at Playa Los Almendros, the maintenance of avenues, and the collection of solid waste.

The secretary general of FEDOMU congratulated Minister David Collado and his team for the initiative, while urging other State institutions to replicate these types of actions in favor of local governments.
“I hope other institutions emulate this example and contribute to the country’s municipalities,” he stated.
The statements were made during the delivery of trucks, tractors, and sweepers valued at RD$128 million, equipment that will be distributed to various tourist destinations to reinforce cleaning, sustainability, and sargassum management efforts.
